Vinyasa and Restorative yoga with Luke Painting workshop with Allison Healthy meals by Toko from EAT Limited space available $350/ea |
When was the last time you painted?
Yoga and Art are similar in so many ways. If you don’t make time for them, you can forget what an important part of life they are! Many people feel they are not artists and never pick up painting materials again after school years when they experiment with them. This retreat is an opportunity for you to jump back on the band wagon again of doing two really healthy, fulfilling things! Join us for a spring weekend upstate to nourish your body and mind with vibrant explorations of yoga and painting!
I met Allison Maletz while taking her intro to Watercolor class at 3rd Ward in Brooklyn. She is an accomplished artist and also a great teacher.
Her class was fun and informative. One exercise was free-style painting to music, just to get a feel for the mediums flow and possibilities.
Allison has a great way of setting it up the project and giving you guidance along the way.

Luke Simon has been exploring and enjoying yoga for 10 years. Originally from New Mexico, his love for yoga has taken him to many beautiful places and teachers. In 2006 he completed 200 hours of Hatha Yoga, Pranayama & Meditation training at the Sivananda Ashram in Kerala, India. He also hugged Amma for the first time, and has been deeply inspired by her hearty lifestyle of ‘embracing the world’. In 2009 he completed Laughing Lotus‘ 200-hour Vinyasa training in New York City, where he continues to practice, study and teach. Luke’s class combines alignment instruction with rhythmic movement to bring back grace to the body and mind. Equally challenging and relaxing, classes usually include Sanskrit chanting, insight from the Yoga teachings and some good music. He sends great Thanks to all his teachers, including Amma, Walt Whitman and Rumi..
- Painting Supplies list if you want to bring your own materials
- 1 Pad of Paper (Cold press, 140 lb (300 gsm), 11 x14, 12 sheets.) * Avoid “Borden & Riley Vellum” and “Canson XL” watercolor paper brands- They are very frustrating to work with.
- Hard Pencil (2B)
- Kneaded Eraser
- Tray/Pallet (I would like for them to have 6-9 wells for mixing liquid paints. Cheap plastic ones are fine, about an inch deep. * A white ice tray will do).
- A nice range of Watercolor Brush Sizes varying from round and flat: 1, 4, 10, 20 for example (you will know them from oil brushes because the bristles on water-based brushes are very soft to the touch.)
- 1 water container, a plastic cup or coffee tin (anything out of the recycle bin will do.)
- Watercolor paint tubes. I would recommend buying a box of 8-15 small tubes of all the basic colors. * At the very minimum you must have a primary Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, and Burnt Umber. (No White, Naples Yellow, or “Flesh Tint” will be used in this class) I recommend opening the tubes of paint in the store to make sure the colors look “primary” aka, that the red is really RED and not an orangey red, etc.
- Paper towels
